Responsible Leaders Innovation Forum 2024

Innovation Forum 24
Calling All Future Builders! We are thrilled to welcome you to the Responsible Leaders Innovation Forum! This event brings together a carefully selected group of visionary leaders, industry experts, and trailblazing innovators from across sectors and borders. Forging a future-proof society through innovation and collaboration is the driving force behind this forum. We are excited to unite this esteemed community to explore bold, collaborative solutions to the pressing challenges we face. Get ready for change!

.

Where We Are:
Industries and Societies at a Crossroads

Restoring industrial competitiveness and societal confidence is critical to remaining relevant in today's global economy. To this end, we need long-term, sustainable strategies, not timelines driven by short-term successes. We must also maintain the resilience of energy supplies and social cohesion. This requires forward-thinking and collaboration.

What We Do:
Calling All Solutions Builders

We need an integrated approach to move towards a more sustainable way of living and production. If we want to develop our society and the economy to be better equipped for future shocks and crises, we must rethink our approach. We need to discuss how to strike a balance between global competitiveness, decarbonization, and becoming climate-neutral.Our goal is to create a space for co-creation, bringing together experts and doers from across borders, sectors, and generations to drive positive change. We gather to identify and work on innovative approaches and solutions to the challenges of the net-zero transition and industrial competitiveness.

Let's learn from those who roll up their sleeves and turn challenges into opportunities. Together, we want to deepen the debate on critical issues like accelerating the energy transition and financing transformative technologies. At the same time, we must also strengthen core democratic values such as equality, rule of law, and pluralism.

Where We Go:
Moving Forward for Society

Our venue is the WECC Westhafen Event & Convention Center, an impressive industrial warehouse in Berlin's biggest inland port. Today, the city's largest goods handling center is a historically rich area that bridges past and future. It symbolizes the widespread social and economic disruptions we're currently moving through. There is no better place in the German capital to rethink Europe's industrial competitiveness.2024 is a make-or-break year for addressing issues like public polarization and the rise of anti-establishment movements. To create lasting, positive change, we need to stand together to strengthen economic and democratic resilience.

How We Do It:
Working Together

The Responsible Leaders Innovation Forum is an immersive experience, designed to stir and drive real-world action. All 300 participants will put their senses to full use, learning from leading thinkers and innovators on a program that blends content, music, visual arts, and technology and challenging the discussion with their perspectives and experiences. The forum kicks off on Thursday with welcome remarks from our Board and an inspiring fireside chat on Pathways for Innovation. This session unites diverse perspectives from government, business, and society. Together, we aim to bring some clarity to the geopolitical complexity of our time and stress the paramount role of collaboration to succeed on the journey to carbon neutrality, climate adaptation and socio-economic transformation. On Friday, the event will be about participatory formats, foresight, and solution-building. Participants will deep-dive into critical discussions at the crossroads of climate, energy, and technology in interactive panels, future-oriented workshops, and an innovation auction. In the auction, startups from the 2024 RESPOND cohort will present solutions to selected challenges through matchmaking. The auction aims to leverage commitments from participants and organizations to promote climate-positive innovations and speed up their implementation. We want to challenge conventional thinking and build a future-proof society.

The Role of Competition and Collaboration: Navigating the Risks and Rewards of the Net-Zero Transition

The medium- and long-term existential risks of climate change to our civilisation are clear. While the rewards of swift climate action are only compelling over longer time, in the short-term the immediate risks and rewards may be less clear. The discussion will explore both, the rewards of bold climate action that supports growth, productivity, and resilience; and how to navigate the shorter-term risks associated when making capital investment, funding innovation, and deploying or marketing net-zero solutions. Where should sectors or individual businesses seek competitive advantage and where is collaboration required to deliver the crucial transformation needed? How can the significant capital requirements of the transition be met? How can the value of the net-zero transition be enhanced through approaches that maximise economic, social, and environmental co-benefits?

Building the Future: Global Pathways towards Climate Resilient Cities

With their specific characteristics such as a large population, critical infrastructure, building density and surface sealing, cities are extremely vulnerable to climate change impacts. Cities worldwide need to prepare for present and future climate crises by adaptation and resilience measures. We will utilize future foresight methodologies to explore key questions such as: What is needed to build climate resilience in cities? How can we ensure that all citizens benefit equally? And what technical and financial resources are needed to strengthen urban resilience? We aim to uncover main obstacles and explore innovative strategies, collaboration efforts and existing solutions towards climate resilient cities around the world. The session will bring together experts in climate change adaptation, urban planning, policy making, business and finance to identify potential scenarios and pathways for shaping a resilient urban future.

Strengthening Democracies for Tomorrow: Leadership Opportunities with Advancing Technologies

This workshop addresses the critical need for inclusive, democratic governance frameworks in an era of rapid technological advancement. We utilize future foresight methodologies to explore key questions such as: • What are the implications of innovative technologies for the future of leadership?
• What skills and attributes will leaders need to effectively manage and leverage these technological advancements to promote democratic values and inclusivity?
• What would it mean for leadership to think about innovative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence not as just a new tool – but a new capability? We aim to uncover how future (political) leadership can shape the development and deployment of technologies in ways that reflect collective human values and aspirations.
